Hello! This is Aunt Aya👵.

Well, today, I will introduce Malaysian Bitter Gourd!

The typical Bitter Gourd in Malaysia is the left type I have in the photo below. At first, I didn't know what it was, so I bought the small Bitter Gourd just similar with Japanese Bitter Gourd on the right, and cooked it for dinner.

so bitter 🤮🤮🤮

It was so bitter that I was surprised~😱Malaysian vegetables are usually bigger than Japanese vegetables, but why Bitter Gourd are smaller??? Even though they are small, the bitterness is condensed. . .

When I asked my husband's family, they said the left side was common. . .

Bitter Gourd(Goya in Japanese) is sometimes eaten at food stalls, but it seems that it is not often used in Chinese home cooking. Why? ?

I feel that Malaysian normal Bitter Gourd is as bitter as Japanese Bitter Gourd. By the way, this is the Japanese goya.

A friend of mine told me that if you remove the cotton from the Bitter Gourd, cut it into thin slices, and soak it in salt and sugar water for about 30 minutes, the bitterness will go away, so I cook it that way every time.
