Hello, this is Aya Mama 👵🏻.The other day, I introduced pediatric clinics in Malaysia, and today I’d like to talk about local clinics for adults.
When Malaysians catch a cold or feel unwell, they usually go to a local clinic called “KLINIK.”Big hospitals are far away and more expensive — it’s quite similar to how things work in Japan.

When I’m not feeling well, I also go to a KLINIK first. They’re usually located in shop lots — areas with rows of small stores. It’s best to visit a clinic close to your home, so make sure to check which KLINIKs are nearby!
Sometimes we go to a KLINIK that’s open 24 hours — unbelievable, right? In Japan, there aren’t any 24-hour local clinics. In Malaysia, there aren’t many, but some KLINIKs are open all day and night, and even after hours, the consultation fees are surprisingly cheap! 😮😮😮

This is the consultation fee list that was posted at the clinic.Even during after hours, the price is only RM10 higher than usual! The consultation fee itself is already super cheap, and regular hours are from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., which is incredibly long — it’s hard not to be amazed by how affordable it is.
In Malaysia, medical costs at private hospitals are generally expensive, but visiting a KLINIK (local clinic) for a mild cold is actually quite affordable. When I visited for a cold, I received 3–4 types of medicine, and the total cost including the consultation was RM50–80.
When I lived in Japan about 10 years ago, visiting a local clinic for a cold would cost around ¥3,000(RM100) just for the consultation, plus about ¥2,000 (RM70)for medicine at the pharmacy — and that’s with national health insurance!
Since Malaysia doesn’t have a national health insurance system, you pay out of pocket at KLINIKs.But even without insurance, RM50–80 is roughly half the cost compared to Japan.
Even foreigners can visit a KLINIK by simply showing their passport.Consultations are usually in English, and for minor illnesses like colds, going to a nearby KLINIK is cheap and convenient.
