A New 50-Year Megaproject Begins on the Outskirts of Kuala Lumpur: The Bandar Malaysia Plan
A new megaproject is now underway in Kuala Lumpur.
Announced by KLCC Holdings (KLCCH), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s national oil company PETRONAS, Bandar Malaysia is a large-scale national urban development project. Following the successful developments of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and Putrajaya, this is set to become the company’s third major national landmark.
The development site is the former Royal Malaysian Air Force base in the Sungai Besi area of Kuala Lumpur, covering approximately 486 acres. The plan is to transform this vast area into a brand-new city over the course of around 50 years.
Main Features Announced
Construction of 10,000 affordable housing units
Development of green parks and public spaces
Integration with various public transportation systems, including the High-Speed Rail (HSR)
Establishment of a sustainable international business hub
Malaysia’s urban development is expected to accelerate further in the coming years.
Currently in the Planning Stage—Detailed Master Plan to Be Announced by the End of 2025
The Bandar Malaysia project has already been officially announced by the CEO of KLCCH, but the detailed master plan is scheduled to be formally released by the end of 2025.
At present, the full details of the project are yet to be unveiled. However, given that this development is led by the same experienced team behind KLCC and Putrajaya—both major national projects—public interest and expectations are already high.
For those interested in Kuala Lumpur’s real estate market or looking for long-term investment opportunities, this is definitely a project to watch.
