IGB International School International School Tour in Malaysia No.36

IGB International School

IGB International School is located in the Sungai Buloh area, about 30 minutes northwest of Kuala Lumpur city center and approximately 12 minutes from Desa ParkCity. It is surrounded by quiet residential neighborhoods and greenery, providing a pleasant environment. The international school was established in 2014 by IGB Berhad, the company also known for operating Mid Valley Megamall, which is familiar to many Japanese.

Founded in 1964, IGB Berhad has built a strong track record in residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments and is one of Malaysia’s leading property development and investment companies. The company operates well-known shopping centers such as Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens Mall. Its diverse business portfolio includes commercial properties, hotels, residential developments, office buildings, and REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts), providing a stable revenue base.

IGB follows a continuous IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum for students from age 3 through to high school graduation. The IB program is an internationally recognized educational framework designed to develop globally minded thinking and learning skills.

Rather than focusing on rote memorization, many classes are inquiry-based, encouraging students to ask “why” and explore concepts deeply. Students learn by researching, presenting their findings, and engaging in discussions with peers. A distinctive feature of the IB curriculum is its interdisciplinary approach, connecting subjects to real-life and societal themes.

The program emphasizes not only academic knowledge but also personal growth, empathy, and a spirit of challenge. Highly regarded by universities worldwide, the IB curriculum supports future higher education opportunities and international careers. In essence, the IB fosters critical thinking and a global perspective.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is divided into three levels that correspond to a child’s stages of development: the PYP (Primary Years Programme), the MYP (Middle Years Programme), and the DP (Diploma Programme).

■ PYP (Primary Years Programme) | Elementary Education, Ages 3–12

  • This stage corresponds to primary school.

  • Learning is centered around inquiry-based themes, such as the environment, society, and the self.

  • The programme fosters the ability to think independently, ask questions, and conduct research across different subjects.

■ MYP (Middle Years Programme) | Lower Secondary Education, Ages 11–16

  • This stage corresponds to middle school through the early years of high school.

  • Students study eight subjects in a balanced way while connecting their learning to real-world social issues.

  • The programme emphasizes group work and projects, helping students develop logical thinking and analytical skills.

DP (Diploma Programme) | Upper Secondary Education, Ages 16–19

  • This stage corresponds to the final years of high school and is directly linked to university preparation.

  • The programme consists of six subjects, along with three core components: TOK (Theory of Knowledge), EE (Extended Essay), and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).

  • Focused on developing critical thinking, inquiry skills, and social engagement, the DP is recognized by universities worldwide as a qualification for admission.

In other words, as students progress from PYP to MYP to DP, the programme is designed to gradually develop their abilities in stages: from “inquiry skills” in PYP, to “critical thinking skills” in MYP, and finally to the “ability to learn and thrive in a global context” in DP.

IGB International School is one of the few IB-accredited schools in Malaysia that offers a fully immersive IB education, making it quite rare in the country. The facilities are all large and well-maintained, and the sheer size of the campus—such as the track pictured here and the 10-lane swimming pool—is truly impressive.

The school offers a wide range of facilities, including a theatre/stage, visual arts studios, sports and fitness facilities (including an Olympic-size 50m pool), an indoor gymnasium (with three full-size basketball courts, three netball courts, three volleyball courts, and 12 badminton courts), workshops and textile studios, science laboratories (biology, chemistry, physics), and libraries dedicated separately to primary and secondary students. The range and quality of these facilities are exceptional.

While tuition fees are on the higher side, IGB International School is a great choice for families who want their children to experience a full IB education in a well-equipped environment. The higher cost can be considered worthwhile given the quality of education and facilities offered.

A distinctive feature of IGB International School is that most of the teachers are foreign nationals. One entire floor of a building is dedicated to classes conducted mainly in English, carefully designed so that children with little or no English experience do not develop a dislike for the language.

This is part of the school’s relatively new Intensive English Academic Programme (IEAP), established a few years ago. Unlike typical English enhancement classes, the IEAP offers a completely independent learning environment with its own curriculum and specialized materials, based on a concept of learning English unlike anything seen in other schools. The programme is designed not only to improve English proficiency but also to help students transition smoothly into international programmes such as the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The IEAP has its own annex building connected to the main school, with well-designed classrooms and activity spaces that create a welcoming and supportive environment. If the tuition and educational philosophy align with your family’s goals, IGB International School warmly welcomes inquiries for school visits.
