Saizeriya to Set Up Malaysian Subsidiary in September

The casual dining chain “Saizeriya” will expand into Malaysia. Around September 2025, it plans to establish a local subsidiary, “Malaysia Saizeriya,” and begin opening restaurants. The capital will be about 3 billion yen. The opening date of the first restaurant and specific expansion plans will be decided later.

Saizeriya opened its first overseas restaurant in Shanghai, China, in 2003. It later expanded to Taiwan, Singapore, and other regions, and in May 2025, opened its first restaurant in Vietnam. This entry into Malaysia is part of a new growth strategy to address the shrinking domestic dining market caused by population decline.

Positive Market Reaction as Share Price Hits Year-to-Date High

On August 20, Saizeriya’s share price rose to 5,640 yen after the market opened, marking its first year-to-date high in about eight months. The announcement on the 19th regarding the establishment of a Malaysian subsidiary was seen as a key factor, boosting expectations for further overseas expansion.

As of May 2025, the company operates a total of 1,666 restaurants: 1,051 in Japan and 615 overseas. Its overseas operations include China, Singapore, and Vietnam, with further growth in the Southeast Asian market drawing attention.

8 Must-Try Saizeriya Dishes Loved by Japanese, Now Coming to Malaysia!

The opening date and specific plans for the first store have not yet been announced, so it is still unclear which menu items will be available. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at some of Saizeriya’s most popular dishes in Japan and look forward to the opening of the very first store in Malaysia!

😊 8 Must-Try Saizeriya Favorites 😊

Milano-Style Doria

The signature dish of Saizeriya! Affordable yet authentic, and always a favorite.

This baked rice dish with white sauce and meat sauce was actually created in Japan, not Italy. Simple but never boring — this is the first dish you have to try at Saizeriya.

Shrimp Salad

Generously topped with plump, lightly salted shrimp. Refreshing yet satisfying, and pairs perfectly with pasta or pizza.

Spicy Chicken

Small, drumette-style chicken wings that are crispy outside and juicy inside. Mildly spicy, so even kids can enjoy. A must-order for many Saizeriya fans!

Buffalo Mozzarella Margherita Pizza

A classic combination of tomato sauce and creamy buffalo mozzarella. Authentic flavors, yet casual and easy to enjoy.

Warm Green Pea Salad

Sweet, tender green peas served warm for a comforting, gentle taste. Light and healthy, but filling enough with great nutrition balance.

Oven-Baked Escargots

Hot escargots baked in the oven, loaded with fragrant garlic butter. A chance to enjoy a dish you don’t usually get to try, in a casual way.

Garlic Mussels

Shell-on mussels baked with garlic and olive oil, enhancing the rich seafood flavor. Perfect with white wine or beer.

Arrosticini (Grilled Lamb Skewers)

A traditional dish from Abruzzo, Italy: skewered lamb grilled over charcoal. Many are surprised to find such authentic lamb cuisine at Saizeriya!

Saizeriya is not authentic Italian cuisine, but rather a casual restaurant where you can enjoy “Italian-inspired” dishes with a unique Japanese twist.

We are excited about its expansion into Malaysia, and hope it will be warmly welcomed and loved by the local community for many years to come.
