Monash University has announced plans to build a new campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The University’s Malaysia campus will partner with TRX City to invest a total of RM2.8 billion (approximately AUD 1 billion) in developing the new campus.
This initiative reflects Monash University’s commitment as the “University of the Indo-Pacific” to deepen Australia’s engagement with ASEAN through its largest-ever investment in world-class education and research.
Opening in 2032, the new campus will accommodate 22,500 students
Monash University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, officially announced the new campus plan in Kuala Lumpur together with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Malaysia’s Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir.
Scheduled to open in 2032, the new campus will have the capacity to accommodate 22,500 students and 1,700 staff, meeting the growing demand for a Monash education.
The University is working closely with the Australian and Malaysian Governments to bring this campus to life and to further expand its international education and research programs that serve local and regional communities.
Comment by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
"Showcasing Australia’s excellence in higher education overseas is a tremendous opportunity for jobs and investment. But it’s also an important chance to deepen our connections — within our region and across the world.
This investment by Monash University in a new campus in Malaysia is a perfect example of that — giving students the opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s leading international universities right here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur."
Cutting-edge Research Centres and Over 35 New Programs
The new campus, which will be established in addition to the existing Monash University Malaysia campus, will feature state-of-the-art research centres focusing on energy transition, healthcare, artificial intelligence (AI), and data science.
Located in TRX, Kuala Lumpur’s financial district, the campus will be surrounded by world-class financial institutions — creating an ideal environment to foster industry collaboration, innovation, and employment-integrated education.
More than 35 new degree programs will also be offered, covering key areas critical to Malaysia and the global workforce, including:
Digitisation
AI and Cybersecurity
Climate Change and Sustainability
Healthcare and Digital Health
Semiconductor and Advanced Manufacturing
