According to Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Devasthanam chairman Tan Sri R Nadarajah, the project gained momentum after direct involvement from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari confirmed that the remaining obstacles are technical in nature.

The issue was discussed during the Prime Minister’s recent visit to the temple, where he emphasized that the matter should be settled promptly as it concerns the community.

The project had previously been delayed due to the rejection of a temporary occupation licence linked to a nearby commercial development. However, Nadarajah clarified that there is no conflict between the temple and the state government, describing the situation as an administrative and legal complication.

He also highlighted that the temple operates under a court order, which added complexity to approval procedures. The Prime Minister acknowledged this constraint and expressed continued support, including an additional RM1 million allocation for the temple’s development.

With a resolution now in sight, the temple has pledged full cooperation with government directives.

Once the escalator is completed, Batu Caves is expected to become even more accessible and welcoming for visitors from around the world.
