Royal Belum Rainforest Resort – Trek through Malaysia’s 130-million-year-old rainforest and embrace the wonders of nature.
Hello! I’m Aya, a Japanese wife.
Today, I’d like to introduce a resort hotel located deep in one of Malaysia’s hidden rainforests, featuring a 130-million-year-old forest and an emerald-green man-made lake. The resort is situated in Perak, in the northern part of Malaysia, and this vast forest connects all the way to Thailand. It’s about a 4.5-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur.
What’s amazing is that the hotel pool in the forest is an infinity pool overlooking the lake. With 360-degree views of Malaysia’s stunning hidden landscapes, the pool blends so perfectly with the lake that you feel like you’re swimming in it!
This forest is currently being considered for UNESCO World Heritage status. Researchers from around the world come here to study the forest and its insects, and even among locals, it’s a well-kept secret sightseeing spot. Once it becomes a World Heritage Site, it may get crowded, so be sure to visit before then!
This article is a continuation, introducing sightseeing at Royal Belum Rainforest Resort. Be sure to check it out! For inquiries or reservations, please contact us.

The sunlight reflects beautifully off the lake and the pool!
You can also take a small boat to go trekking in the heart of the rainforest. Deep in the forest, you’ll find the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia! If you’re lucky, you might even see it in bloom!

The resort offers various types of rooms, and this one is the Chengal Garden View type, located on the ground floor (no stairs needed). You can think of it as the lower part of a standalone house.
Its most unique feature is the bathroom, which is designed to be partially “outdoors.”

It’s an open-air bath in the middle of the forest—a different experience from the typical Japanese onsen! You really feel like you’re outdoors, which makes it a fun and unique experience. But don’t worry, there are curtains for privacy.
Inside the room, there’s a proper shower and toilet with glass doors, making it a great choice for couples.

This is a bungalow-style room called the Traditional Chalets Tualang. It offers a lake view and features a beautiful design that blends traditional Malay style with modern elements.
The light switches are actually vintage ones that were used in Malaysia in the past. Locals find them nostalgic, and I personally thought they were stylish!

The large bathtub is perfect for relaxing after a long trek! The bathroom is spacious, with the toilet included, and it comes with bathrobes and a double sink—perfect for a honeymoon-like experience! 😄

The room also comes with a private balcony. At the back, there’s a table and chairs, perfect for enjoying a coffee while taking in the lake view and relaxing. With such a large balcony, you might even feel like running around! This type of room is located right next to the pool, making it super convenient to take a dip.

The most common type of room is the Azlanii Room. In front of the large window, there’s a cozy sofa area. While it’s not exactly a traditional alcove, it’s a flexible space—you can use it to store your luggage, or even set up an extra bed if needed.
This room is located right next to the restaurant building, so breakfast and dinner are just a short walk away! For other room types that are a bit farther, you can use the resort’s “buggy” to get around easily.

※Note: The “buggy” is a small vehicle commonly used at resorts to get around. If you’re visiting the resort, you definitely don’t want to miss riding it!

At Belum Rainforest Resort, you’re surrounded everywhere by dynamic plants and lush greenery—everywhere is picture-perfect. At night, the forest comes alive with the chorus of frogs and insects. I had never heard such a grand symphony in my life!
Even living in Kuala Lumpur, I rarely hear frogs, and certainly not in Japan. But here, the sounds of frogs and insects fill the air—it’s the original sound of nature! You don’t even need to strain your ears; just listening to these natural sounds is breathtaking. I even recorded it because I was so amazed.
This is an experience you can’t have in the city. Have you forgotten what the “sounds of nature” truly feel like? At Belum, you can hear the pure, untouched sounds that are lost in urban life. One of the greatest joys of enjoying Belum is to fully immerse yourself in these natural sounds!

Dinner is served buffet-style, so you can choose from a variety of dishes. The buffet caters to a multicultural crowd, including Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European cuisines. There’s a wide selection of vegetables, fish, and meats, and everything is delicious. On some days, they even serve lamb soup.
If you prefer something other than the buffet, you can also order à la carte for an additional charge.

This is the resort’s restaurant, Hornbill. It’s located right next to the Azlanii Room building.

Breakfast is also served buffet-style, with a variety of options including bread, egg dishes, meats, noodles, and more.
